What we do

Ignite changemakers

Pro-Justice approaches in nature-based journeys

We partner with individuals, organizations and coalitions—especially those early in their pro-justice journeys—to build the confidence and practical skills to embed equity into nature-based programs and practices. The pro-justice journey is an ongoing process of learning and unlearning throughout our lives. Through workshops grounded in cultural humility and anti-racist learning, we support changemakers in designing relevant, accessible experiences, using inclusive language with care, and examining white supremacy culture and its impacts and seeking antidotes that provide healing. Together, we can create real pathways to belonging in the outdoors.

  • We support organizations in embedding pro-justice approaches into the heart of their nature-based programming. By applying cultural humility to program design, we help you create relevant, accessible experiences that honor participants' lived experiences, such as support for English language learners.

  • We offer workshops designed for those early in their pro-justice journeys—particularly those exploring white privilege—to build practical skills and deepen organizational consciousness. We facilitate the examination of white supremacy culture and work collaboratively to integrate anti-racist practices into your ongoing mission.

  • We create values-driven learning spaces that interweave pro-justice and nature-based practices. We help changemakers foster equity-centered environments, so that nature-based journeys make an intentional step toward broader systemic change.

What our clients say

The Friends of Berkeley Tuolumne Camp and the founding partner of Inclusion Outdoors first partnered together in 2018 to help create Outdoor Engagement and Environmental Stewardship for Berkeley Youth and Teens and UC Berkeley Students! That partnership continues, and the threads of the relationships that were built are still thriving to this day. The goal was to introduce UC students and Berkeley High schoolers to great, outdoor environments, from tree planting and restoration projects to trail building and forest health practices. We’ve been able to serve hundreds of students for new outdoor experiences, and help start some careers in outdoor education as well as lifetime enjoyment! We cannot thank Inclusion Outdoors enough for all their passion and partnership in these efforts! They literally are making a huge difference in our community and in the lives of everyone they touch.

Examples of our work igniting changemakers

  • 10 people standing and squatting with their arms around each other, smiling and looking at the camera, on a sunny day with a sports field and blue sky in the background.

    Pro-Justice Workshops

We offer a series of pro-justice workshops on topics that are most relevant to our clients’ community and priorities. For example, we worked with the steering committee and program providers in the Richmond Outdoors Coalition to generate, practice and implement strategies for supporting English language learners in outdoor and environmental education.

  • 13 people sitting outside in a circle on meditation cushions, blankets and chairs, looking at one person who appears to be teaching, with a nature mandala made of pine needles, stones and sticks in the center of the circle.

    Antidotes to White Supremacy Culture

We use resources from Tema Okun and other scholars to engage with our clients around the characteristics and antidotes of White Supremacy Culture, which then serves as the basis of creating shared meeting agreements, core values and decision making processes.
